Spotlight: Aromatherapy Pre-Shave Essential Oil by Taylor of Old Bond Street

Since 1854, when Jeremiah Taylor opened his exclusive shop on Bond Street, in the heart of London, England's fashionable West End, four generations of Taylors have gained an enviable reputation as providers of the world's finest personal products.

The most popular of these products are the shaving creams. They were developed from an original formula by the son of the founder, and are very dense creams rich in essential oils and moisturizers that soften the beard. A tiny bit of this cream on the head of your brush creates an incredibly thick, luxurious lather and prepares the skin for a close, smooth shave.

Taylor Of Old Bond Street's Aromatherapy Pre-Shave Oil [$15.00 U.S.] is a nourishing concoction of essential oils, especially beneficial to those with heavy beards or sensitive skin. Using the oil on a wet face, and applying shaving lather directly on top of the oil, will promote a flawless shave and healthy skin.

Adidas Fetes David Beckham Collaboration

Adidas threw a party at its Melrose Avenue store Wednesday night to celebrate the second season of its Originals by Originals, or ObyO, collection and the newest partnership between David Beckham and streetwear designer James Bond.

The collaboration, unveiled in August, between the soccer star and the owner of Los Angeles’ Undefeated stores, is the third partnership in the ObyO concept. Jeremy Scott and Kazuki continue to design a collection of apparel and footwear as well.

Beckham, wearing a black leather jacket from the collection, said the collaboration came naturally.

“I’ve been in James’ shop quite a few times. I was a fan of his store and everything in the store before I met [him]. Then Adidas came to me and said, ‘You want to do this collection?’ and mentioned James, and that’s when we came together,” he said.

Bond took inspiration for the 22-piece collection from a photograph of a London tailoring shop.

“When they came to me, the first thing I did was show David the photo,” he said. “We wanted to go with proper tailoring mixed with athletic silhouettes and materials.

“The key for me was to give [Beckham] something that upped the lifestyle. You’re going to get your suits and high fashion wherever you get it. When you leave the training facility and you jump in the car, you’re going to have your leather jacket, puffy coat, breakaway sweatpant...things that have everyday function and that look and feel good,” said Bond.

Beckham credits Bond with being “the driving force behind the collection,” noting: “Just spending a few hours together talking and sending messages, he got the idea of what I like and my style. He looked back over old Adidas collections of mine and old pictures.”

The soccer star has worn Adidas since the beginning of his career and designed several collections for the brand.

“I’ve done ranges in the past and some people have looked at them and thought, ‘I love David Beckham the soccer player, but would I want to wear something with Beckham sprayed over it?’ I think these pieces are very original and it’s not just going to look good now. I think in 10 years people will still be into the sneakers and the clothing,” Beckham said.

While some of the footwear uses high-tech sandwich mesh in bright yellow and orange, most of the fall collection is gray, black and navy in traditional men’s wear fabrics inspired by old-school Adidas pieces.

Beckham noted the pieces are versatile — suitable for post-training or a dinner out.

“We wanted to have that mixture of things where you can be casual but with the right lines and material that you could wear to go out,” said Beckham, who cited Steve McQueen and Muhammad Ali as his main style inspirations.

For Bond, who follows street fashion around the world, North London street style gave him cues for details such as the leather jacket that zips to the top, the fitted cardigan and the wool crepe track pants lined with silk. More high fashion materials, such as lambskin, are used for a puffy track jacket, and cotton-cashmere is used for thermals. Retail prices range from $70 to $220 for core apparel pieces, $290 to $1,100 for statement pieces and $145 to $320 for footwear.

For spring, the collection includes a three-quarter-sleeve pullover hoodie with an oversize hood, a henley and a khaki suit based on McQueen’s “The Great Escape” style.

With a designing wife at home, did Beckham receive any input from Victoria on the collection?

“She kind of left this to me and James. It was about pieces we like to wear, not ‘What are you wearing?’ clothes. Of course, she’s my wife and we always have opinions about different things that we wear,” said Beckham.

Added Bond: “At our first meeting at their house, Victoria said, ‘Whatever you do, just keep it manly.’”
