London barber launches shaving school

"Shaving knowledge and technique is not instinctive, all men need to learn the art and unfortunately many learn it badly. A passionate statement from London-based grooming shop Geo F. Trumper, which now offers classes on how to shave properly. Customer demand led to the introduction of the one-to-one sessions, in which a barber shows a customer the best techniques for shaving and how to avoid unsightly problems such as ingrown hairs and razor burn. Other shaving tips are offered according to skin type.

Two types of class are on offer from the Soho branch, depending on the skills sought: there's the Mach 3 Shaving School at GBP 50, or the 90-minute Open Razor Shaving School at GBP 75. Founded in 1875, the Trumpers chain is drawing on the power of status skills to expose modern men to its traditional craft while showing customers the advantages of its high-end range—something entrepreneurs in most industries should think of doing, if they aren't already.

Geo F. Trumper products are also available via MiN New York.

Nickel Morning After Rescue Gel

Nickel Morning After Rescue Gel just may be a get out of jail free card for your face.  With a gel consistency, it helps tone and firm the skin and dries clean with no residue whatsoever.  Menthol-enriched and spiked with a coffee complex, it delivers a good morning wake up slap after a night that somehow rolled a bit too far into the morning.  Two thumbs up!

Maison des Métallos, 94 rue Jean Pierre Timbaud, Paris 11th

The presentation focuses on the garments and just the garments. As the
model walks onto the podium, a frontal light exposes him to the visitors
in the most clear and simple way. A dresser joins him to add a piece of
garment to his look.

The presentation starts as minimalist as possible, slowly completed by
details, colors and prints: an evolution, a progression into the
construction and mix of fabrics, color palette and techniques. The pure
white gradually welcomes shades and flowers, in different shapes and
expressions.

The 24 looks mix lines 10 + 14 + 11 + 22 of the new SS 10 Maison Martin
Margiela menswear.

Men's Wear Arrive with Project No. 8 in the LES [NY]

The little glass store opening this weekend on the corner of Hester and Orchard Streets has the unusual name Project No. 8b.

As the sequel to the ever inventive Project No. 8, a store on Division Street a couple of blocks south, Project No. 9 might have had a more sensible ring. But we are already getting out of order.

First came Project No. 1, which is how Elizabeth Beer and Brian Janusiak tend to label the many fruits of their personal and professional collaboration, so as better to keep track of them. (No. 1 was a baby. So was No. 2.) Then there were several art projects, including the opening of a gallery in Berlin (No. 7) and, three years ago, their first store, which looks as starkly gallerylike as the one in “9 1/2 Weeks,” but with more complicated clothes, from designers like Boudicca and Christian Wijnants.

Since then, there have been more projects, including their own clothing collection (Various Projects) and a series of designer Obama buttons last year. (They are up to something like No. 13 by now.) When it came time to open a second store, Mr. Janusiak said, it made sense to keep retail projects classified as subsets of No. 8.

So whatever happened to No. 8a? Its opening, as a travel-themed store at the Ace Hotel at 20 West 29th Street, was supposed to take precedence, but construction delays have pushed that back until fall.

No. 8b, meanwhile, focuses on men’s clothes, including some first-time men’s wear from designers like Tom Scott and Mr. Wijnants. And, like the original store, there is a mix of prices and some off-the-wall accessories (Pyrex cuff links by Jane D’Arensbourg and a fur bracelet from Bless that contains a USB port). Sleek gray suits from Kostas Murkudis, a former Helmut Lang designer, for about $2,000 are displayed with nerdy camp shirts from Hope, a Swedish label, for $140, along with some novel bags, like a duffel made of Tyvek by Saskia Diez from Germany.

The furniture in the store, from e15, is also for sale, though less accessible. A fantastic yellow work table with folding leaves costs around $15,000 at No. 8b, which represents the line exclusively in New York.
